from Of Flesh Sculptures And Abandoned Love… ‘July’

You think of July as the hottest month
while I recall two family pets dead,
easing into
the fact that my father died then too

July, July, July I think in a crazed
Spanish accent, as if
to coax comedy
out of the horror and inalienable truth

I see this is how the seasons change
when least expected; the chill
of frost creeps in: regret has no place
in that furnace you take everywhere with you
